US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) officials visit the Intellectual Property Branch of the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office

Mr. Michael Mangelson, Senior Counsel for China IP Policy (former IP Attaché, U.S. Consulate General Shanghai), and Mr. Tony Caputa, Senior Quality Advisor, from the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) , accompanied by Mr. Phillip Loosli, Economic Officer of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), and Ms. Lisa Yang, Specialist of AIT, visited the Intellectual Property Branch of the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office at 11:20am, on November 8, 2019.

There was a working meeting chaired by Head Prosecutor Chen Wen-chi. Prosecutor Lo Hsueh-mei, Prosecutor Chung Feng-ling, Prosecutor Chu Shuai-chun and Prosecutor Sun Chi-wei participated in the discussion.

Mr. Michael Mangelson appraised the efforts and progress of Taiwan’s judicial authorities in combating IP infringers. Then the two sides exchanged views on the recent investigation of digital piracy, especially the infringing websites hosted on overseas servers; cooperation in the investigation of trade secret cases, the legislative progress of the issuance of confidentiality order in the criminal proceedings. Finally, Head Prosecutor Chen mentioned that IP Branch Office as a contact point in the Memorandum of Understanding between the TECRO and the AIT on Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Cooperation, the two sides should deepen the cooperation in the training of law enforcement professional functions. Michael Mangelson and Phillip Loosli agreed to jointly plan the training programs and conference for next year.
